Leipzig’s TransCenturyUpdate Festival presented their 2023 edition under the motto “Open your heart” and invited the Wisp Kollektiv to create an installation for the entrance of the main venue of the festival, the former movie theater in the south of Leipzig, the UT Connewitz.

The request resulted in a digital guest book, inviting people to open their heart and type in their messages ready to digest and reproduce them simultaneously under the steady movement of 1216 crimson LED lights for the next festival goers.

The Erlebnisportal in Weimar is a multi-media space dedicated to the culture of the Weimar region. In the summer 2021 we were asked to programme the LED cloud for the running programm. We managed to address the LEDs by their spatial position and build 3D shapes with light. During the winter 2022 we came back to make it interactive play with the system. After programming specific patterns and connect their movements and triggers to a bodytracking camera, we improvised and tested the system in an attempt to create a framework for interactive lighting. The resulted performance can be seen as a body-controlled lighting system or light-augmented movement work.

Cut Throught is a site-specific intervention in the landscape and architecture through minimal light and shape. It consists of a one-dimensional screen floating over the venue. Playing with scale and proportion literally cutting through the castle and contrasts with the baroque envelope, the pure shape with the raw light enhanced the architecture of the castle.

Stretching over 20 meters, the screen plays moving images and casts its light and shadows onto the festival goers. Flying over the room, the line becomes space and the light becomes matter filling up the whole space.

The screen displays rather minimalistic yet impactful animations, playing on movements, swiftness, drama and decay with the use of rich hues.

The installation was created as a central part of the festival's overall scenography and visual identity. It was visible from multiple outdoor locations including the entrance, utilities area, stage, and campsite, providing varying perspectives depending on the viewer's position.

Plantes Musicales is an immersive interactive audio-visual installation that combines technology, nature and playfulness. It invites visitors to engage with the artwork and play music with plants. In this exhibit, three plants become musical instruments that visitors can touch to produce a sound and play a light animation, creating a multisensory immersive experience.

The installation encourages visitors to interact with each other. As they play the plants and create sounds, they'll naturally try to coordinate themselves, creating an improvised musical performance. This not only adds to the excitement of the experience, but also fosters a sense of community and connection between visitors.

The plants are equipped with a capacity sensor, sending wirelessly signal to TouchDesigner which in his turn sends data to the self-built LED fixtures and to Ableton.

Garish objects hanging from the ceiling, flamboyant telemarketing ads, τάματα that morph into unrecognizable figures: an ode to the liminality of identity. We create a world so familiar yet abrasively inexistent teetering between a queer utopia and camp chaos. Somewhere between overtly adorned porcelain Jesuses and the crass taste of burnt Greek coffee lies liberation; the liminality of queerness frees the self through the magnitude of not only objects but tradition.

Counterpublic is a multimedia and multisensorial installation questioning identity and its in-betweenness, produced in cooperation with Zoe Lampou during the WISP Laboratory week. Using 3D renders blended with church incense and quince marmalade offered to visitors, the installation proposes an intentional practice of the in-betweenness.

The Erlebnisportal (Experience Portal) in Weimar, Thuringia, Germany, is a multimedia touristic information pavilion run by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The space has three wall-sized screens, a surround sound system, a controlling table and the Light Cloud hanging from the ceiling. It shows films about cultural and historical places in the region of Thuringia.

The design office whitebox dresden GmbH who designed the exhibition commissioned me together with Albrecht Meixner to programme and create content for the Light Cloud. It consists of 4000+ LEDs controlled over Art-Net, they are attached on strings, connected in parallel after each other, every string a constant number of DMX addresses but with variable numbers of LEDs, hence with empty addresses on an irregular pattern. To create a list of all the LEDs, sorted by ArtNet universes and indices, appended with their space coordinates, we worked with a 3D model of the Light Cloud and multiple tables, processed half manually, half generativity.

After being able to use the Light Cloud as a three-dimensional screen, any shapes and animation, 3D as 2D could be projected on it. The Light cloud is, beside the screens, the only light source in the room. Its function is to enhance the viewing experience of the films. Therefore, in the commissioned scenes, our goal was to create a more immersive experience by recreating camera movements in the cloud, or enhancing the atmosphere of the movie, for example a sunset or foggy forest.
